The publisher and editor ofSDMMagazine hosted the first annualSDM100 gala in Savannah, Ga., on May 20 at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom, overlooking the Savannah River. This enchanted evening was conceived to honor security firms that are among the largest in the nation, as ranked on the 2006SDM100 report.
TheSDM100 isSDMMagazine’s exclusive report of the largest firms in the business of selling, installing, servicing and monitoring electronic security systems. This year marked the 16th annualSDM100 report, which measures consumer dollars captured by providers such as ADT Security, Brink’s Home Security, Protection One, HSM Electronic Protection Services, and many smaller entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses.
TheSDM100 companies garnered $6.68 billion in annual revenue – representing 25 percent market share of the entire security-installing industry. This represents tremendous buying power to the manufacturers and service providers that serve the security industry.
The gala wasSDM’s landmark event to honor the top executives from those firms. It was held in conjunction with the Central Station Alarm Association’s 2006 Electronic Security Forum & Exposition – an educational forum open to the entire security industry.
SDM’s editor, Laura Stepanek, welcomed all of the guests and then recognized theSDM100 companies in attendance. Each received a plaque featuring theSDM100 cover, engraved with their company name and rank on theSDM100.
During the cocktail hour, First Dance Productions Atlanta provided gala attendees with a mini-dancing lesson, where dancers learned the steps to a foxtrot and a swing. While dinner was served, the performers entertained with professional appearances by four couples who danced a dramatic Argentine tango, the Rumba, a Spanish-style Paso Doble, the foxtrot, a romantic Bolero, a classic traditional waltz, a smooth and funky West Coast swing, a Salsa dance, and a Latin Merengue.
The evening ended with an open dance floor, and guests were invited to partake in a dessert and cognac bar. It was a remarkable evening in thatSDM’s team had the opportunity to honor theSDM100 and demonstrate its respect for their successful leadership in the security industry.
