Indianapolis-based Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) released a new white paper — Network Security Best Practices. The document covers best practices for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) security in a residential environment based on the IEEE 802.11x and 802.3 standards.
The Network Security Best Practices document covers network security in three parts: Securing the router from WAN (Internet) attack; securing any wireless networks; and securing the LAN and individual devices. The document serves as a guide for electronic systems contractors (ESCs) who are responsible for their clients’ networks.
"As consumers continue to view digital content and connect a large number of IP-enabled products within their home, ESCs will increasingly be expected to understand the fundamentals of home networks," CEDIA Senior Director of Technology Dave Pedigo relates. "This document will brief ESCs on the basics of network security as they continue to spend more time in this space."
