One of Atlanta’s largest and longest-running security technology companies opened the doors today on a new, 32,000-square-foot facility to accommodate its rapid expansion and provide new jobs for the city.
Ackerman Security Systems, ranked No. 27 in the 2011 SDM 100, has been selling custom-designed security systems to homes and businesses and operating a central monitoring station in Atlanta since 1967.
Its new facility is three times the size of its former headquarters. The company has experienced rapid growth over the past few years — in 2009, for instance, it grew by 40 percent over the previous year, and reached more than 200 employees by 2010.
The company, which serves approximately 70,000 customers in the area, currently has 258 employees and expects to increase its workforce by 25 percent in the coming year.
“It’s rare to see such tremendous growth in this tough economic climate, but security is more top-of-mind for consumers today,” said Jim Callahan, chief operating officer, Ackerman Security. “Having this new facility will allow us to better serve those consumers and provide the protection, not to mention the peace of mind, they need.”
The new facility includes a state-of-the-art demonstration center where visitors can see the newest security technology up close and personal. Examples include alarm systems that allow home and business owners to manage their security systems via web-enabled devices like smartphones, and touchscreen keypads that simplify operation and incorporate home automation.
Ackerman Security’s local recognitions have included being named one of the Best Places to Work by Atlanta Magazine, as well as one of the Top 10 Security Alarm Companies in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
