Sometimes it makes a difference when an integrator can more quickly bring best-of-breed solutions to an anxious client.
The Rhode Island Department of Corrections requested Signet Electronic Systems of Norwell, Mass., propose a solution to upgrade the existing analog security video system at its Moran facility. This project had some unique challenges: an upgrade of an existing analog 128 camera system that relied on antiquated digital video recorders in a correctional facility where video surveillance and recording is life safety critical. And deployment of the new system had to minimize any downtime of such crucial surveillance while providing increased viewing and recording capabilities.
The Signet team first performed a detailed site survey of the existing system, along with determining available space and power for the new equipment. The outcome: a system — servers, workstations, network switches, and IP video encoders — preconfigured and fully tested in the integrator’s technology lab.
The new system was installed in parallel with the existing system; cameras were cut over one by one while the customer received training on features and functionality. Deployment was one day with no impact to the client’s existing operation.
