MicroPower Technologies’ updated Rugged-i is a solar-powered, wireless surveillance camera that reduces power consumption by as much as 90 percent without compromising video quality or reliability, according to the company. The self-contained, outdoor camera includes TrustLinx technology, which aims to transfer video more efficiently and effectively than standard wireless cameras. The MicroPower wireless architecture results in lower installation and acquisition costs over solutions that require trenching or large external solar panels, according to the company. As many as six Rugged-i cameras can be networked with the MicroPower wireless video hub, the MiniHub. The wireless connection range between the Rugged-i camera and the MiniHub has been tested to operate reliably in distances up to ½ mile using omni-directional antennas. The hub, in turn, controls each camera in the network, decodes the video and transfers the footage to an NVR managed by a video management system.
