Razberi Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of network video solutions, penned a white paper titled, “Taking a First Step: Cyber Security on Video Surveillance Systems,” which expresses that one layer of security is not enough when it comes to preventing hackers from infiltrating network systems. This paper uses the 2013 Target hack as an example to illustrate why CCTV can be the open door for hackers.
“Connecting a rogue wireless access point between a camera and the network will often allow full access to anyone close enough to the building to do a Wi-Fi connection, and yet not interfere with the camera’s normal operation,” the paper states.
System design should include not only a virtual or physical dedicated camera network but also additional layers of security that can be easily added by system owners and priced economically. Razberi Technologies introduces solutions to the issues it raises.
