According to AlarmForce Industries’ home security poll conducted by Environic Research, 69 percent of Canadians believe that home security systems add value to their homes. The national survey, which polled more than 800 Canadians, found that 89 percent of respondents feel very safe in their own neighbourhoods, and 23 percent of Canadians do not rely on home security at all.
The poll also found that almost 40 percent of respondents were unaware that having a home security system reduces their insurance rates. Yet, more than 40 percent of homeowners looking to purchase a new home have a pre-installed home security system on their checklist.
Other highlights from the national poll include:
• 82 percent feel that direct contact between the home alarm company and emergency services is important and 71 percent believe voice response by the security company is important if an incident is detected.
• 68 percent are in favour of being able to remotely arm/disarm their home security systems, monitor or control smart home options remotely from a computer or smartphone.
• 76 percent believe that a monitored alarm system is effective in improving safety and security of their homes.
