The International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety’s (IAHSS’s) Ontario Chapter held its 12th annual golf tournament at the Summit Golf & Country Club in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The event, which has been going on annually for more than a decade, drew IAHSS security healthcare professionals as well as partners across the security industry, and was attended by current IAHSS president Jeff Young and president-elect Martin Green, respectively the second and third Canadian presidents of the healthcare security organization.
The sold-out event catered to 144 golfers this year. The tournament included a silent auction and award dinner following a day of golf, conversation and networking.
“It was a huge success. It was a beautiful day and the weather was fantastic. We raised a whole bunch of money and brought a lot of people together for networking, exchanging ideas and having fun,” Green, CHPA, president-elect of IAHSS and also manager, security, telecommunications and emergency preparedness at Baycrest Health Sciences, Toronto, told Professional Security Canada.
In addition to spending time with vendors, other members and guests, golfers raised enough money to make a $25,000 donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. “We have contributed to the organization before, but this is our largest sum yet,” Green said.
IAHSS is an organization dedicated to professionals involved in managing and directing security and safety programs in healthcare facilities and has more than 2,000 members from all over the world who are healthcare security, law enforcement, safety and emergency management leaders.
For nearly 50 years, IAHSS has educated and served members by offering resources and benefits including industry and design guidelines, and local and international educational and networking opportunities. IAHSS also maintains the Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) certification for healthcare security professionals.
Another event that IAHSS holds each year is its annual conference and exhibition. The 2017 event will take place April 23-25 in Vancouver.
“We will have internationally recognized experts coming to speak, fantastic educational opportunities, networking opportunities and our annual awards presentation for members. It will be a spectacular event,” Green shared.
