Shoplifting has again surpassed employee theft as the leading cause of shrinkage for the fourth consecutive year.

Still, simple shoplifting continues to drop, down to 35.7 percent from its 2016 high of 39.3 percent. Employee (and other types of internal) theft is up slightly over its 2017 number, but it still shows slight declines over numbers from 2015 and 2016.
