Speco Technologies is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The company got its start as an audio company, which is how it got its name — Speco is derived from SPEaker COmpany. It wasn’t until the late eighties that Speco transitioned from solely selling audio, to becoming the comprehensive security company it is today. Speco sold its first camera and DVR in 1988.
Speco has been a family owned and operated company since 1974, when Louis Keller, a Speco rep and board member, purchased the business. The company is currently owned by both Keller’s children, Todd Keller and Rhonda Keller Mutterperl.
“Family has always been an integral part of Speco’s identity,” said Speco’s current president, Todd Keller. “We pride ourselves on being one of the top companies within this industry that still remains family owned. It’s a tremendous feat that we do not take for granted.”
