Prince George’s County, Md., is the latest municipality to implement Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP), a technology designed to automate communication between alarm monitoring central stations and public safety dispatch/911 centers.

Milestone Systems, an open platform company in networked video management software (VMS), concluded a series of regional partner and customers events for 2018 with MIPS (Milestone Integration Platform Symposium) in Las Vegas on February 21. The three events gathered 1,509 attendees and 90 exhibitors, and the theme was how Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be the next market disruption for video technology. Milestone Systems also took the opportunity to award partners for their contributions to the community over the past year.

News sources reported the Austin bomber, Mark Anthony Conditt, is confirmed to be dead after authorities were able to use surveillance video of Conditt to track and corner him before he detonated an explosion that took his own life.

According to Reuters, Panasonic Corp. is considering selling a plant in Suzhou, a city in southeast China’s Jiangsu province, that makes security cameras in a deal it hopes will fetch more than $450 million. 

Communications Electronics launched a new subsidiary, Communications Electronics Systems LLC (CES). CES will provide Electronic Security Integration to commercial businesses and government customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and be a division of Communications Electronics Inc.

ADT Inc., SDM’s 2017 Dealer of the Year, recently announced the completed acquisitions of Aronson Security Group Inc. (ASG) and Acme Security Systems. ADT says these acquisitions will help it bolster commercial growth and expansion.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) announced on March 8, International Women’s Day, the establishment of the SIA Women in Security Forum to support the participation of women in the security industry. Through programs, professional development and networking events, the committee will engage members, both men and women, who share this goal.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) has selected James Marcella, director, industry associations, Axis Communications Inc., as 2017 SIA Committee Chair of the Year for his work with the SIA Education Committee.
