HID Global, a global provider of identity solutions, has signed an agreement to acquire Mercury Security, an OEM supplier of controllers for physical access control.

IHS Markit reported in a press release that semiconductor industry achieved near record growth in the second quarter of 2017, posting a 6.1 percent growth from the previous quarter. Global revenue came in at $101.4 billion, up from $95.6 billion in the first quarter of 2017. This is the highest growth the industry has seen in the second quarter since 2014.

Honeywell, a provider of products, software and technologies for connected buildings and homes, has named Richard (Rich) Lattanzi as the president of Honeywell’s global security business and Dino Koutrouki as the president of Honeywell’s global fire business.

Future Fibre Technologies Limited (FFT), a global provider of fiber optic perimeter intrusion detection systems, has announced it intends to make an off-market takeover bid for all of the shares it does not hold in ASX listed security company MaxSec Group Limited. FFT currently holds 65,000,000 MaxSec shares (or approximately 13.7 percent). The board of MaxSec has indicated it currently intends to recommend the offer, in the absence of a superior proposal.
 

The City of Sandy Springs, a suburb of metro Atlanta, passed an ordinance that became effective as of Sept. 1, 2017, which will force alarm companies to pay false alarm fees and fines, regardless of reason and without establishing culpability.
