  In 2011, I attended my company’s leadership meeting to plan for 2012. Our chief intelligent officer (CIO) arrived and told us what every business owner would love to hear, “I believe I can grow revenue 30 percent without hiring anybody.” People sat up in their chairs, a few choked on their coffee, but everybody had the same look on their face and you could tell they were thinking, “tell us more.”

Eagle Eye Networks, Austin, Texas, announced the availability of its annual “Video Surveillance Report,” which produced interesting results regarding market trends in video surveillance. This year’s report was collected from video surveillance and information technology (IT) professionals, and the survey topics spanned the usage of video surveillance systems, cloud video surveillance, the role of IT departments and views regarding video surveillance systems’ vulnerability. 

Now is the time for our industry to fully embrace Wi-Fi connections for IP cameras and other devices, because that’s the way the world is going. When planning to use Wi-Fi devices, security dealers have the potential option of using the client’s existing Wi-Fi.

The advantage of this setup over the app experience is that all devices are being controlled from a single point of interaction, which enables more complex and advanced programming techniques such as macro commands and the use of conditional logic.

A home security system with home automation now is much more than security; it connects one’s family with their lifestyle. Your marketing and advertising materials need to reflect that.
