It was announced this week that several long-time employees of ADT Security Services, the nation's No. 1 electronic security services provider, will be presented with the Security Industry Alarm Coalition's (SIAC) annual William N. Moody Excellence Award. ADT honorees include Bill Cooper, Larry Dischert and Jon Sargent.
The prestigious award was established by SIAC to recognize people who have made outstanding contributions to the alarm industry and who, throughout their careers, have made a significant impact on the benefits that alarm systems provide to communities.
The awards will be presented at the inaugural Electronic Security Expo (ESX) event, at the Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. from June 25-28.
Cooper, industry liaison manager for ADT, has been engaged in alarm management issues for more than 20 years. He is a past president of the Kentucky Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, and has chaired the False Alarm Committee since 1988. Cooper also is chairman of the NBFAA’s Industry Affairs Committee and is an active member of its Government Relations Committee. He has been involved with SIAC for the past four years and serves as its board-elected CARE chairman (Coordinated Alarm Reduction Effort).
Dischert, prior to his recent retirement, served as director of industry and regulator liaison for ADT. During his 32-year tenure with ADT, Dischert was an instrumental part of a team assembled to develop the first "automation" of alarm monitoring in the mid-1970s. In the following decade, he was a key member of a special ADT task force that rolled out automation in all of ADT's European central stations.
Dischert is active in many alarm industry committees including the Security Industry Standards Counsel and the NBFAA, serving as the national committee chairman. As a member of the NFPA, he served on both the test & maintenance committee of NFPA 72 and the NFPA Premises Security committee NFPA-730/731. Dischert was also a charter member of SIAC and served as chairman of its finance committee.
Sargent, industry relations manager for ADT, is recognized as one of the strongest leaders on alarm response issues in the United States and is currently president of the California Alarm Association. His 35 years in the security industry include several leadership positions in law enforcement and alarm management organizations. He is a voting member and serves on the board of directors on the NBFAA and is the 2007 recipient of the NBFAA's Chapter President of the Year. Sargent is an advisory board member of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in its Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Sargent also currently serves as an Industry/Law Enforcement liaison for SIAC in the western states and is a member of the False Alarm Reduction Association, California Peace Officers Association and California State Sheriff's Association.
"Bill Moody has set a high standard for professional conduct in the industry and this year's honorees of the Excellence Award in his name certainly live up to those high standards," said SIAC executive director Stan Martin.
"ADT has always been a champion in the industry on the importance of collaborating with law enforcement to enhance public safety," said Martin. "Jon Sargent, Bill Cooper and Larry Dischert have collectively dedicated many decades of service to the alarm industry. The leadership and hard work of these exemplary ADT executives has really helped make a significant impact on the alarm industry and we are very grateful for their ongoing commitment and unwavering service."
