First and foremost: happy holidays. Temperatures are dropping, snow is becoming a looming threat, our favorite stores are flooded with shoppers, and our fridges are filled with more sweets than we know what to do with: all of which are signs that the holiday season is upon us.
The California Alarm Association's (CAA) Board of Directors held its meeting at the Winter Convention being held December 8-10 in San Francisco. I arrived a few minutes early to grab a "good seat" from a journalist's perspective - a seat with a good view of everything going on in the room.
Today I took the quick flight from Los Angeles (L.A.) up to San Francisco to attend the California Alarm Associationââ¬â¢s (CAA) Winter Convention held December 8-10.
I use an Android phone. I also use apps. So I was happy to see new research stating that Android has overtaken Apple with a 44 percent worldwide share of mobile app downloads. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Apple; it is just that research like this indicates a continued emphasis from companies to produce more apps for Android, and that means more apps I can chose from.
Flood waters that have besieged parts of Thailand and affected the production of hard drives could possibly become a problem for our industry around February or March 2012. If the DVRs and NVRs you are installing require specialized hard drives, and they were being built at the flooded factory, there well could be equipment shortages and/or greatly increased costs for these devices.
I was watching this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd96Jc1UWjA, on a "big box store,"a.k.a. Best Buy's Geek Squad, approach to home automation. It brought a few wiry smiles to my face.
How many people are up to date on the intense flooding in Thailand? If you aren't, you probably soon willbe, especially if you have any connection to products requiring a hard drive.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), and pink is popping up everywhere: on my TV screen, being worn by rough and tough NFL players; at the airport with wildly decorated gates draped in pink (at leastthe American Airlines gates at LAX); and even at industry trade shows thanks to security industry companies like Datacard Group, Minnetonka, Minn., a provider of secure ID and card personalization solutions.
An interesting poll result crossed my desk today, and I thought I'd share. We've all heard the quotation that says: "Aim for the moon, because even if you miss you'll be among the stars."
Even though the Chicago White Sox unfortunately didn't bring much to their game against the Cleveland Indians tonight, Underwriters Laboratories did! UL sponsored tonight's annual “Police & Fire Night"at the game, which the Sox lost 4 to 1 to the American League's Central Division second-place Indians.
