In conjunction with local security integrators, Melville, N.Y.-based Honeywell is leading a series of seminars in the Midwest that educates school officials on how to identify, prevent, and react to real-life security threats in schools.
Participants in the free seminars are taught how to employ an integrated access control, intrusion and video surveillance security platform to effectively prepare for and respond to emergency incidents. The six-hour seminar, geared toward school superintendents, administrators and facility managers, features a hands-on demonstration of integrated security solutions from Honeywell.
The sessions also include information especially relevant for school security, presented by a local security integrator as well as members of local law enforcement. Each session includes a demonstration from Dave Trudeau, president of Clear Armor™, who shows the importance of glass laminate and how it can be implemented to effectively protect life, health and property from criminal or natural threats.
“The headlines lately are filled with stories about horrific incidents at schools. These sessions give us an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialog with school officials at the grassroots level and illustrate solutions that meet the unique needs of the education sector,” said Bruce Montgomery, business development manager for Honeywell and a former law enforcement professional. “Everyone who attends has been really impressed how flexible and scalable it is, and how easy it is to implement.”
Participants receive a certificate for a free system analysis by a certified security integrator and recommendations for improving their security operational plan. The first seminars were launched across the Midwest earlier this fall, in major cities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma. Additional seminars are planned for schools in Kansas City, Mo., Lincoln, Neb., Nashville, Tenn., and Louisville, Ky., in 2015.
