Beth McFarland, director of programs for the SHRM Foundation, will speak to 300 executive-level electronic security professionals about hiring veterans into the civilian workforce at the Electronic Security Association’s 2018 Leadership Summit, February 12-15, in Savannah, Ga.

McFarland is one of many experts from outside of the industry who will take the Leadership Summit stage to encourage a new perspective. McFarland is responsible for all inclusion initiatives, publications, research and scholarships at the SHRM Foundation. She is currently leading an initiative to help employers hire, engage and retain military veterans in the civilian workforce.

At Leadership Summit, on February 14, McFarland will share her presentation titled “Hiring and Engaging Veterans – Why it Makes Business Sense and How to Do It,” sponsored by Axis Communications and Telguard.

“If you’re having trouble finding, recruiting and retaining top talent, I encourage you to come to my session,” McFarland said. “I'm going to share some specific ideas on where you can find strong military candidates, how you can recruit and engage that talent, and where to find free resources you can use in these efforts.”

This leader-oriented session will give industry pros an inside look at strategies to tap into the tremendous potential this segment of the population possesses. Attendees will learn about veterans’ current status in the workforce and hear success stories of veteran employment.

“Hiring veterans is not only the right thing to do, but it’s great for your business. They can be a terrific asset to your organization,” McFarland said.

Her presentation will be part of a three-day lineup packed with speakers who have expertise to share in their respective fields. Attendees can expect to leave with tangible action items, an expanded industry network and a new perspective.
