Following the retirement of Laura Stepanek as SDM’s editor and associate publisher and Karyn Hodgson’s appointment to editor-in-chief, Maggie McFadden Shein re-joined the staff as managing editor on April 1. 

As managing editor, Maggie McFadden Shein will write exclusive cover stories, such as SDM’s State of the Market series, as well as other feature-length articles and case studies. She will be in charge of the magazine’s case study department, Technology at Work, as well as the Technology Solutions & Skills department. She will also manage the annual SDM 100 and Top Systems Integrators reports and write exclusive content based on those reports. 

Shein has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign and more than 15 years of trade magazine experience, including with SDM from 2004-2009. She first began working at SDM as associate editor and then managing editor and has since continued to write and manage special projects for the magazine as a freelancer.

“I am excited to fulfill this role at SDM,” Shein said. “The energy and opportunity in the ever-changing and evolving security industry is second to none. I look forward to working with Karyn and the rest of the talented SDM staff to continue to bring our readers the information they need to succeed in this industry.”
