The Monitoring Association is holding a virtual town hall on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. to discuss the upcoming Verizon and AT&T 3G sunsets.
AT&T is calling for a sunset date of Feb. 22, 2022. Verizon’s sunset is set to happen 10 months later in December of 2022.
The security industry is seeking a longer transition period before AT&T sunsets it 3G networks due to the impact of COVID-19. Customers have been reluctant to allow alarm technicians to enter their homes and businesses to upgrade equipment to be compatible with the new network.
Additionally, 6,000,000 alarm industry radios have the potential of becoming dysfunctional without a smooth transition.
The Monitoring Association is asking industry professionals to reach out to their elected officials to tell AT&T to extend its sunset period to December 2022.
Bill Singer, AICC lobbyist and Lou Fiore, AICC chair, will provide more information about this issue, its potential impact on businesses and customers and how security industry professionals can best support the appeal.
